One of my favorite things to do in France is wandering into the little neighborhood cafés and bakeries and seeing all of those rows of beautiful pastries.

Whether I’m exploring Paris at night, passing through a tiny village while on a Seine river cruise, or checking out the local Christmas markets during the holidays, the dessert cases always catch my eye. There are rustic fruit tarts, delicate cookies, flaky pastries, and silky mousses that look almost too pretty to touch.

After several trips, I realized that most of those bakery favorites are simple, French desserts that I could recreate when I got back home. The recipes I’m sharing here are impressive but completely doable in your own kitchen, whether you want a simple weekend sweet or a special dessert for your next dinner party.

Cookies are one of my favorite foods. I adore macarons, but whenever I see them in a bakery, they are so crazy expensive. Surprisingly, they are not that hard to make! As almond flour is used, that part of the recipe is a bit more expensive, but they are so worth it. Don’t buy these when you can DIY. This lime version is perfect for a summer dessert! These would also make a lovely gift.
